Goals, postcards & thank yous!

Now that it’s the end of September it’s time to look back on the goals I made earlier this month. One of the goals was to mail off a postcard. The reason I chose this goal was because it’s something I have always wanted to do yet never got around to doing it. It was so much fun creating my own postcard that I think I may continue doing it. The one below features a tree that I have doodled in my Moleskin. I’m not going to say who I sent it to because I want it to be a surprise. :)

Custom postcard I sent to a special someone!

Custom postcard I sent to a special someone!

Now let’s take a look at the list of goals I made and see what I have managed to accomplish this month.

Read at least six books. — I actually read more than six and once I get my laptop back from the repair shop I will update my library.

Lose 3lbs. — Sadly, I totally failed at this. I think I even gained a pound, ugh. I had trouble finding the motivation to get my butt up and go to the gym. I ate pretty healthy but other days I ate horribly bad. I have a terrible addiction to Cici’s never-ending buffet of yummy pizza & desserts.

Send a postcard to a friend. — Loved doing this! I am definitely thinking about continuing this and making more to send to friends & family.

Paint/decorate the apartment, finally. — Yes! For the past few days Chris and I have been painting our apartment. There is still more to do but I believe I can finish it before the night is over. We also bought us a couch & chair that I am so excited about! I’ll be adding photos shortly once everything is painted and cleaned up. :D

Become more organized. — This seems like such an easy goal for me considering I am an organized nut. I blame it on the lack of good planners out there! I have looked every where and I have yet to find one I like and could be of any use to me. There is a cute journal at work that I am thinking about purchasing and using it as a planner though.

Blog/journal more! — I could have blogged more considering the time off I have had lately. But! I did blog more than I normally do. According to my archives last month I blogged only 3 times as well as the previous month. I believe this post is my 6th entry this month so yay! It’s a start. :D

Now for October’s goals!..

  1. Read 7 books.
  2. Edit, print & frame photos to hang up.
  3. Do not eat at Cici’s at all this month!
  4. Send two more postcards.
  5. Find a planner and get organized.
  6. Post at least ten photos @ my photoblog.

I would also like to thank everyone who left me such great advice on what to do about my pet dilemma. I have been so stressed and worried about what dog to get and where to get it that I forgot about the excitement and thrill of having a dog of my own some day. Thank you guys so very much. You guys rock!

What are some of your goals for October or for this year?

This is inspiring me to set some goals!! I enjoy reading about your progress... I love sending postcards, but never really do either! It is sad when someone with our talent buys a premade card, but I am so guilty!!! I even have blank postcards for creating your own, ugh! (p.s. I also have a moleskine and LOVE IT!) It holds sermon notes, prayers, and doodles...lots and lots of doodles.

I also can never find planners that I like. I usually end up creating one out of a notebook or journal. Actually, thinking about it, I might have picked that habit up from you...I remember all the calendars that you made in HS, lol. I do that all the time now!!

I am still majorly rearranging in my classroom (mainly my desk area) but I hope to have that finished tomorrow. So, I can post some pics, lol. (the first thing on my goals list, LOL)

    Love you and miss you!!

Yay! I am glad that I have inspired you. :) That's great! And I definitely agree that taking photos of your classroom should be first on your list, hehe. :P Can't wait to see them!

I actually looked for premade postcards but I couldn't find any decent ones! So I just decided to make my own and now I love it! Oh, and moleskins are awesome. Chris carries his with him every where, it's a small one that fits in his pocket. Mine is a little larger.. and it's so awesome that I hate to write in it for the fear or messing it up -- lol, I hate that about me! I do that to so many things -- some of my most coolest things often go unused because of that same reason. I'm looking forward to getting me a planner, hopefully soon!

Love and miss you too! Btw, do you still have your live journal? I remember you did years ago. Or you had something similar to LJ anyways. :P

HAHAHA! I do that too!! My bro and sis in law got me a sketchbook in Italy and I can't bring myself to use it! I also have a couple journals that are unused too. I would still buy another one though, that is the bad thing.

I had a xanga thing, is that what you mean? I don't really use it anymore though. Hmm...maybe I should, lol. I don't really like those premade blogging sites though, and I would have no clue where to begin customizing it. I guess they bother me 'cause I would change 'em but can't. Idk.

I hope you take pics of the other cards you make! Well, gotta go for now. Have an awesome day!!

I'm terrible at it as well. I have a few really nice journals & even scrapbooks that I rarely use.. just for that fact! It's crazy, lol. And I would go out and buy more too. :| I'm trying to get in the habit to start using them now! lol

Ohh, yea. That's right, it was Xanga. Well, if you ever did want a blog or any type of website you can always ask me. I can help you start something up. :)

Totally understand!! I am like that about pens, pencils, and other art stuff too...shh....I am a hoarder..hehe

Would you have time to help me? I have no idea where to even begin.. That would be awesome though!!! I will totally take you up on that if you could!! That's exciting!!

Oh, I have a sketch I want to show you..I will try to post a pic (and classroom pics, lol) this afternoon!!

The postcard is very well drawn. Great job on it!

I don't ever send postcards to my friends in Singapore. The first time I ever sent one was to a friend who's currently studying in Australia. I think it's only meaningful to send it to someone I don't see often. On a side note, I bought my card off foldees. For the life of me, I can't draw well on paper. I'm sure the special someone who received your card will be so thrill. :D

Sometimes, I kind of wish people will send me cards and notes. It's heart warming to receive such cards. It makes me feels that there is a reason for my existence.

Uhmm, I got lots of planners as gifts during my 21st birthday but I don't use them at all. I don't have a habit of flipping through my planners. Is there any special technique to use planners? :x

Hi, Dayna! I absolutely love getting cards. People always ask me what they should get me for my birthday or a holiday.. I normally say a card. :D It's something that will most likely out last any material thing so they're quite special to me! I have so many boxes full of notes & cards I have received over the past.. hmm, 10 or so years. :)

Y'see.. I have had many planners before and I always forget to use them. I normally just scribble dates on random pieces of paper and stuff them in my purse -- I hate that sorting method. I'd just like a little notebook that I can keep dates, appointments, numbers, money balances, as well as little doodles or random thoughts I may get. A little collective, I suppose. :) Maybe that's why it's hard for me to find a planner that suits me! -- there probably isn't one out there, haha.

I just want to get into the habit of keeping ONE planner and flipping through it whenever I need to. I like the feeling of being organized. :)

Oh! I had so much fun making that postcard. My husband brought me home several blank postcards that I can use to doodle on. :) I can't wait to send more out.

Wow! You accomplished almost all of your goals, that's fantastic. Good for you-- that's a good feeling. :) And...there's no shame in lovin' some pizza! I was doing so well with my healthy eating and getting back into shape...until last night. But it was just a small road bump in the form of FOUR CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES WITH MILK. :(

It's my weakness...warm cookies out of the oven. I actually bought them along with pomegranate juice and salads if that makes it better? Haha.

I love sending postcards and I love the one you made. Also...I love that you want to post more to your Photoblog! :) Yay for all of us on that goal!

I keep a planner and when I don't have it on me I feel completely and totally naked. It has my appointments along with Brett's and Liam's, birthdays, meetings, deadlines, so on and so forth. It has...everything.

    Good luck to you! :)
    Happy October!

Happy October to you, too! :) I am soo happy the weather is starting to get cooler and the trees are changing colors! Love it.

Hehe, don't feel too bad. When I go to Cici's I normally get a salad with tons of veggies to make myself feel not-so guilty about all the pizza I am going to enhale. :P I am really going to try harder to lose some weight this month -- I totally forgot to make it my goal again. I'm thinking about making it a yearly goal instead and just put my ideal weight.. which is about 6-7lbs lighter. It may be easier for me to lose it over the next few months and no have to meet a certain quota each month.

I am so disappointed in myself for the lack of use of my Photoblog. Sadly, my laptop is away being hospitalized so whenever I get it back, which I pray is soon!, I'll start uploading more photos. :D In the mean time, I'll just start snapping away!

Oh! I got myself the planner from work and I absolutely love it. I can't wait to start writing in it, lol. It's not a yearly thing so it's cool to have for even a few years.. or a few months, however long it lasts. :) Yay!

Oh wow, I love that postcard. :)

Well, on the bright side, you ended up not fulfilling only 2 goals on your list, which is less than what you accomplished. So, congratulations! :P

Good luck on accomplishing this month's goals. :) I'm sure you'll do great. :) I really like the second goal on your list.

Hi, Lexie! Glad to see you here. :) And thank you. I was a little upset that I didn't meet every goal I had planned.. BUT! I am so happy that I accomplished most of them -- totally better than none.

I am excited about this month's goal as well. Especially number two, too. :) I can not wait.. I have wanted my photography on my walls for such a long time now. :D

Happy October, Trina! I have a childhood hobby of collecting postcards but sadly I don't collect them anymore. I lost my collection of postcards when my dad cleared out the cupboard without informing me in advance so they were all fed to the landfill :/

You're planning to read 7 books in a month? Wow, that's a lot. I'm a painfully slow reader and usually it takes me two to three weeks to finish one. I love reading the lines over and over again - that'll not get me beyond the 50-page mark everyday, heh!

I particularly bad at using planners - I got lots of them (just like Dayna does) but I don't really use them. Most of the time I'll pass them on to my cousins who loves to scribble and doodle on them. My life is rather unorganized and at most, I'll keep a mental checklist somewhere in my brain to remind me of what things to do. And I rely a lot of others to remind me too! Looks like it's time for me to get things straight, heh.

    Have a great weekend, Trina!

Hi, Teddy! Happy October to you as well. How's the weather over there this time of year? Because it's absolutely lovely here -- sunny yet cool weather, no more blistering hot days again until May!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear about your postcard collection, that would have been wonderful! Maybe some day you could start over -- I have always wanted to receive post cards but sending them is almost as fun. :)

Now that I work at a bookstore with tons other book worms, seven books a month doesn't sound like a lot anymore. Those people can read several books a week. I had this one customer the other day tell me she once read 200 books during one winter! Crazy. But since I got 5-6 last month, I'm going to try and read a little more this time. Even though my goal is 7, I would love to read about 10 or so. Because after all, my goal for the year is to read 50! And I'm kind of behind. :|

I finally got me a planner. It's actually a journal/notebook that I am going to make into a planner, hehe. I've had it for 3 days and I have still not used it yet.. lol, I am terrible.

Thanks, Teddy! I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well! :)

Hmmm, I'd say the weather over here is getting colder! Although we're a dozen of miles away from the tropical line, the weather pattern does change at the end of the year due to how the monsoon wind blows. It'll get wetter and colder by the day, which spells problems when it comes to drying our laundry, teehee.

LOL, I liked how you played the pun on your domain name! Yea, I guess it can get pretty hot (blistering, sometimes) in May. The summer over there can be pretty insane, with stretches of days without any single drop of rain, I assume? Owww.

200 books in a winter? That's insane. That'll take me around 20~30 years to finish :P I read very very s...l...o...w...ly. It's nice to set a goal for yourself! So now you can get back to your books heheh!

Ah, that's nice! Do show us your new planner in a future post! I heard that you have a Mokeskine too? :)

Lol, I'd like to say that I totally meant to do the pun on my domain name but it was a clever coincidence, hehe. :P

It's been raining here quite a lot lately, almost non stop at times. It's nice on the days where you don't mind in staying inside but I was really wanting to go jogging today and now I can't. :( But then again, it's so nice and cool outside that Chris and I haven't even had to use our A/C yet. We keep the windows open all day and it feels so nice!

Good idea! Once I start using my planner, I'll take a few photos to share. :) I love it when others share photos of their sketchbooks/journals and etc. And I do have a moleskine! I rarely use it though, sadly. I'm too afraid I'd mess it up, haha. I'm terrible!

Good job with your goals! You accomplished more goals than you didn't! Look at it that way! Plus, you still have time this month to add onto these goals! This is such a great thing to do. My 101-in-1001 often falls by the wayside because it is so broad but I think going monthly is such a fantastic idea because short term goals are so reachable and you're doing a great job! Good luck this month!!

I love your 101-in-1001 list. I hope to make one day myself. As for now, I'm just going to stick to the monthly goals.. but I do have a list of yearly goals I want to accomplish. I think it's so satisfying marking a goal off your list once you've accomplished them. :D It's quite fulfilling!

And you're right, I did accomplish more than I didn't -- so I'm not going to be bummed about it. :D

Lovely sketch :) The only mail I've sent in the last few years have been documents, so I'm thinking of mailing my anniversary card instead of giving it this autumn.

Somewhen in January I told myself I'd get back into reading and I reckon by the end of the year I'll have finished about 20. I feel so lazy compared to long lists others have made. Next year I'm setting a minimum number.

What books would you recommend the most from what you've read recently?

      October 5th, 2009 at 9:08am. | Reply
Twenty books is nothing to feel bad about! It's more than zero. :) And is definitely a good number. I would have never imagined myself reading 50 books in a year.. but I wanted to make my goal difficult this year to really encourage me to read more. And it's worked. :D Although I have been slacking for quite some time.. now I'm having to catch up by reading a lot more books in a short amount of time!

Aww, I think it's wonderful that you're thinking about mailing your card off. :) I do enjoy getting mail! Especially cards, letters, and gifts. It can really make my day when you're not expecting it. :)

Ohh, as for books. You should really check out my library page and look at all the ones I've given five stars to. I'm not sure what type of books you enjoy but some of my favorites are:

      1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
      2. The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
      3. The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker
      4. 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
      5. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
      6. Samurai Shortstop by Alan Gratz
      7. The Giver by Lois Lowry
      8. Thr3e by Ted Dekker
      9. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominque Bauby

..those are just a few from the top of my head. :)
