Boy, has this year flown by. I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas. I’m almost sad to see it go… Each year, my family (all 25+ of us) gets together over my aunt’s house for Christmas Eve dinner. We laugh, play games, and exchange gifts. It’s something I look forward to each year. We’ll be heading over there in the early afternoon and we’ll probably won’t leave until about midnight.
Afterward, my siblings, their kids and I all head toward my grandmother’s house to exchange gifts there. This can normally take hours because we each take turns opening our gifts. It’s fun to see everyone’s expressions when opening their presents! I think it bothers my grandmother that I insist everyone take turns. She’ll rather have us all open the gifts at once and get it over with. Hehe, but I like to enjoy it while it lasts. :)
On Christmas morning, Chris and I will cook a yummy breakfast together and then swap our gifts to one another. I always look forward to this! I am always so eager when he opens his gifts because I normally spend so much time picking out what to get him — it’s always something I know he’ll love. Plus, he always picks the greatest gifts for me! :D
Cute little snow man ornament! These we're my moms. <3
When lunch time arrives, the entire family will head towards my grandmother’s house for Christmas lunch/dinner. We normally spend countless hours over there enjoying each other’s company. Very good times! If you can’t tell, Christmas is definitely my favorite time of the year. So, I’m curious. What are your Holidays normally like this time of year? Do you stay home or do travel to visit family? Do you celebrate it on two days like me or just Christmas morning? Is there another holiday you celebrate than Christmas? Please share! I love holiday stories.
So, the Red Velvet Brownies were a hit. I’ve decided I’m going to make them instead of my normal chocolate chunk brownies for the holidays. I can’t wait for the family to try them! I’ve had a lot of requests for the recipe so I’m going to include it here in my blog. I hope this will be the start of me blogging more recipes. I have a ton as I love to cook. :)
ZOMG. Red Velvet Brownies!? DELISH.
Now, I must warn you. This recipe was made up on the spot so I pray the ingredients are correct as I am going by memory here. It’s basically the same as a normal red velvet cake recipe minus the eggs & adding more liquid.
INGREDIENTS:
1 box of Red Velvet Cake mix
1 medium egg
1/2 cup of water
3/4 cup of vegetable oil
1/2 cup of white chocolate chips
1 store bought container of Cream Cheese frosting
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
2. Grease bottom & sides of a 9×9 metal baking pan.
3. Mix egg, water, and oil in a large bowl.
4. Pour cake mix in bowl and stir until all lumps are gone.
5. Mix chocolate chips in the brownie batter.
6. Pour the mixture into the greased pan.
7. Bake for 35 minutes. Time may vary depending on your oven & pan type. Keep checking the brownies every 5 minutes with a tooth pick.
8. Let cool on the counter for 15 minutes.
9. Remove from the pan and let cool in the fridge for 30 minutes.
10. Remove from the fridge and frost with Cream Cheese frosting.
11. Let cool in the fridge for at least an hour.
12. Cut however desired and share with friends!
For those who try this, let me know how yours turn out! I’d love to see pictures as well. :) Oh, and sometimes the crust can get a little hard. I normally cut mine off & munch on those while I wait for the brownies to chill, hehe. Happy Holidays, all!
Wow, your tree is gorgeous!! I love it very much. We just changed our Christmas tree theme this year and I'm trying to perfect it. Funny enough, I'm looking for little snowmen much like the one you have on your tree!! My quest wasn't really that successful this year, perhaps next year. :)
I sent you a Christmas card!! I really hope you got it!
Have a very Merry Christmas! Sounds like you guys have a ton of plans ahead of you for tomorrow...but it will be a lot of fun to tackle all of them. Especially with so many presents!
Aww, we sell really cute snow man ornaments at work! I just love my Christmas ornaments. I don't know if I could afford to have a different themed Christmas tree each year. But the idea sounds lovely! I hope you take pictures??
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! As I'm sure you did. I can't wait to hear about it all. :)
Have a blessed and merry Christmas to you too, Trina! I really love your Christmas tree :) we haven't been putting up one for the past two years and I definitely miss the lights and the photography opportunity, heh. I think it looks great with your newly revamped interior of your apartment, so do take more photos of it :) I can't imagine how lovely it makes your home look like.
Thanks for sharing the red velvet brownies recipe! I haven't learned how to bake yet but I will definitely keep it in mind when I'm good at it in the future. Looks like your family and friends are lucky enough to have a great baker like you. Omnomnom!
I heard that snowing is pretty heavy over there in the US. Take care and have fun!
Thank you, Teddy! I hope you had a wonderful one as well. :) I would love to hear about how the holidays are spent over there on the other side of the world. I can't imagine not having a Christmas tree. I could never not have one! :P Even if I couldn't afford one... I'd have to make one or something, haha. It's just one of those things that I enjoyed as a child. :)
Oh, the brownies are quite simple to make. Whenever you decide to pick up baking, please do try them! :) I bet you'd enjoy it. Oh, and the brownies were a massive hit! Everyone loved them. I even had a few family members eat 3-4 pieces of it, lol. And they were huge pieces too! :D
Psh... Yes! It's snowing, just not here. It will eventually though, I hope. :D
Yay! It wasn't as late as I figured it would be. I totally lost track of time this year, lol.
Glad you enjoyed it. :D Oh! And you must tell me how your brownies turn out! Be sure to keep checking on them as they are cooking. I usually take mine out just before they are done so they are still nice and moist a little. Plus, they normally continue cooking in the hot pan afterward anyways.
Your tree is absolutely gorgeous! It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas! Mine was lovely, as well. THAT CAKE LOOK AMAZING AND I WANT TO EAT MY SCREEN.
Gah! Don't look, Caity! It's not vegan. :P I am sorry if I am tempting you, hehe.
I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful Christmas holiday! Happy 2010! It's approaching super fast. :) Your year will be filled with lots of new possibilities as you'll be leaving the country soon! When will you be making the big move anyways? Are you excited? :D
I did the same thing this year, we went to my auntie and they opened gifts and they had games, so yeah. I hope you got what you wanted or hoped for. Let us know. <3 Happy New Year .
Happy New Year to you as well! I did get what I wanted and then some. I hope you did as well! I loved that your family gets together and play games as well. <3 I hope you had a wonderful time.
If both are your favorites you MUST try them. I promise you won't be disappointed. Like I mentioned earlier, my husband's favorite cake is Red Velvet and he absolutely loves the brownies. It's the taste of the cake but the texture and thickness of a brownie! :D Plus yummy white chocolate! Like you said... HEAVEN. :P
However, I hope you received all you wished for, for 2009 and that you also got to give to the ones you love! Best wishes for 2010 and I hope that you've had a stellar start in ringing in to the New Year.
I sent you a Christmas card!! I really hope you got it!
